In past years, race winners from this year and/or the previous year would be entered into the next running of the All-Star race. Past winners would also be invited into it. However, with SCARTS continuing to age, more and more people are becoming eligible and depleting the number of drivers being able to compete in the qualifying race.
So here is the new rebranded format for the Showdown and All-Star:
SCARTS All-Star / Showdown Format
=================================
All six drivers that won past All-Star races (Slick, Burnout, Scorpio, Lexx, Shyguy & Delux) are the only drivers locked into this years race. Additionally, the top half of the finishing order from the SCARTS Showdown qualifying race will make entry into the All-Star to take on the past champs. If there is an odd number of Showdown drivers, an additional entrant will be allowed in (top 4 out of 7 for instance).
The SCARTS Showdown will be set for 43 laps, with a mandatory caution flying at Lap #20 lasting 3 laps. This sets up a 20 lap run to the finish from this point. There are no rules in terms of taking on tires - all how you want to strategize. The top half of the finishing order at the checkered flag will gain entry into the All-Star Race to take on the past champions.
The All-Star Race format will be much like last year where we will run four segments over the course of 100 laps, then a fifth final segment of 10 laps. Each of the first four segments will be 20 laps with the fourth segment possibly being greater than 20 depending on caution laps run during the breaks. A fifth segment will then run, 10 laps with no fuel or tire. This year, the average finish from each segment for each driver will set the order for the final 10 lap shootout. I'll explain in detail below.
(For example, we start Segment 1 and the admin calls a competition caution after Lap 20. Pitstops begin and the field lines up for a restart. If the Lap we restart is Lap 23 for example, we will race 20 more laps through Lap 42. Then we pit again and go through the same cycle. Segment 4 begins and we will run the remaining laps through Lap 100.
SEG 5 FORMAT REVISION
---------------
Then Segment 5 starts and the field is reset - the most recent segment winner will restart 1st, the next most recent restarts 2nd, on through 4th place for four segments if there was a different winner for each. Then the remaining cars will restart behind them in the order they finished Segment #4.
