This Sunday is the ninth edition of the SCARTS All-Star Race @ Charlotte! Tentatively this race will be held this Sunday, May 24th @ 18 GMT, two hours before the Turbo Sliders Full Contact Championship, set for 21 CET (20 GMT). Here are the details of our race.
SCARTS All-Star / Showdown Format
=================================
All seven drivers that won past All-Star races (Slick, Burnout, Scorpio, Lexx, Shyguy, Delux & Sam) are the only drivers exempt from running the SCARTS Showdown qualifying race. Add Dore to that list as any other drivers that finished on the 2014 Full Throttle Cup podium is also eligible for the All-Star field. All other competitors must qualifying in via the SCARTS Showdown detailed below.
The SCARTS Showdown is set for 43 laps in two segments of 20 laps (a 3 lap caution in the middle). The segment winners from both 20 lap runs will qualify into the SCARTS All-Star field. Whoever wins Segment #1 gets to park the car in the infield and let the remaining drivers race it out for the Segment #2 win. The red flag is displayed after Segment 1 where the winning car can park in the infield. Then normal pitstops will occur with the then 2nd place driver becoming the race leader when pitstops open. There are no rules in terms of taking on tires - all how you want to strategize and plan out your race for taking the segment victory! A third driver will also gain entry into the All-Star race, the driver with the highest finishing average for the two segments. If that average is a tie, the fastest lap from qualifying of those tied will serve as the tiebreaker.
The All-Star Race itself is 100 laps, then a fifth final segment of 10 laps. Each of the first four segments will be 20 laps with the fourth segment possibly being greater than 20 depending on caution laps run during the breaks. A fifth segment will then run, 10 laps with no fuel or tire.
(For example, we start Segment 1 and the admin calls a competition caution after Lap 20. Pitstops begin and the field lines up for a restart. If the Lap we restart is Lap 23 for example, we will race 20 more laps through Lap 42. Then the caution flies again and we go through the same cycle. Segment 4 begins and we will run the remaining laps through Lap 100.
SEGMENT 5
---------------
For Segment 5, the field is reset - the most recent segment winner will restart 1st, the next most recent restarts 2nd, on through 4th place for four segments if there was a different winner for each. Then the remaining cars will restart behind them in average finishing order. If any of those are a tie, the driver with the best finish from Segment 4 will serve as the tiebreaker.
SHOWDOWN OVERVIEW
=================
- Race Length: 43 laps split between two segments
- Two segment winners advance and a third with the best segment finish average, tiebreaker by quicker qualifying time.
- The Segment 1 winner parks the car in the infield to let the remaining field duke it out for the Segment 2 win.
ALL-STAR OVERVEW
================
- Race Length: 100 laps split across four segments (w/ strategy)
- Final 10 lap Segment 5 (with no strategy)
