2017 is here! Welcome to the SCARTS Turbocharged Cup Series! This is the new name for our premier racing series but despite the name change, the format of the racing remains the same as in recent years.
Dore has won the past two Cup championships and looks to capture a third in a row. Burnout will be running his final fulltime year (last time to challenge for a a title) so he will look to ride the momentum from his recent Racin' Edge Truck Series title to close out his SCARTS points racing career with a fourth championship.
This coming week on Wednesday, March 8th (or Thurs. the 9th) will be our annual season opening SCARTS Shootout. This race is a short 60 lap race that sets the field for the SCARTS Daytona 500. Prior to the Shootout, Daytona 500 qualifying will run which will be conducted like a normal qualifying session (11 laps on an oval in ghost mode). However, that is only Round 1. There will be a second session following that for the fastest from Round 1 (top half) and a 1 lap shootout will be contested one driver at a time to claim the pole. That driver will score the pole for the Daytona 500 as well as the SCARTS Shootout. Pitstalls will then be chosen to be used for the Shootout which will carry over into the Daytona 500 as well. The Round 2 qualifiers will choose first (fastest to slowest) then the quickest to slowest that were cut from Round 1.
The race (60 laps) is like a standard SCARTS race. The finishing order from the race will set the rest of the Daytona 500 lineup. If the race winner is different from the polesitter, that driver will join the pole winner on the front row for the Daytona 500. If the pole winner wins like last year (Dore), the 2nd place car will join the pole winner on the front row in the 500.
This race has alot of meaning especially for pitstall selection so please make an effort to attend and have some fun with us!
