Hey SCARTS fans! It's time to kickoff the 2016 season of SCARTS with the annual SCARTS Shootout @ Daytona! This is an exhibition event used to set the starting lineup for the Daytona 500 which will run the following week. There will be a qualifying session prior to the Shootout though, 'Daytona 500 Qualifying' which will set the polesitter for the 500 and the pitstall choices for the Shootout. Those pitstalls will carry over into the Daytona 500 as well so this qualifying session has big importance.
DAYTONA 500 QUALIFYING
=================
Qualifying this year for the Daytona 500 will undergo some changes. The session will consist of two rounds: the first being a standard ghost mode qualifying session lasting 8 laps (9 including the up-to-speed lap) and the second being a single car 1 lap run.
Round 1 resembles a normal SCARTS qualifying session - a ghost mode run with fuel, tire and drafting off. The top speeds from qualifying will transfer you into Round 2, if you are in the top half of the field. (So if 8 qualify in Round 1, the four fastest will advance to Round 2).
- Those failing to transfer out of Round 1 will make up the lower half of the Shootout starting lineup and will choose pitstalls after those that advanced to Round 2.
Round 2 consists of single car runs for those who advanced - 1 outlap and ONE lap at speed. You have ONE shot at a perfect lap to score you the Daytona 500 pole! That pole position will be worth #1 pitstall choice and the pole for the Shootout & the Daytona 500!
- Everyone from Round 2 will choose pitstalls in order of fastest lap from that round and then afterward, cut Round 1 drivers will pick their stalls.
SCARTS SHOOTOUT
============
The SCARTS Shootout is our formality race to set the order for our SCARTS Daytona 500. The polesitter is the honorary polesitter which means he will start both events from the pole position. The remaining starting spots in the 500 will be set by the finishing order from this Shootout. This race is all bragging rights - its a plate race - run hard!
This event has been lengthened to 60 laps (150 miles) to match the NASCAR duel races. There will be two segments - a 20 lap starter run and a 40 lap finale. A competition caution will fall after Lap 20 and last through Lap 22. Pitstops are MANDATORY but you may pit for however long you want to. Then the final 40 lap run will run from Laps 23-62. The race is set for '62 laps' but the 2 additional laps are merely the caution flag between segments. If the caution falls in Segment 1 close to the end of the first segment, that will count as the Segment break.
