Wednesday, February 8th will be the championship battle for the SCARTS Racin' Edge Truck Series @ Homestead-Miami Speedway. Burnout ran 2nd at Indianapolis while Dore finished 5th which has allowed the championship to come down to 'who beats who' at Homestead.
On paper, Dore has a two-point lead over Burnout, however Dore's Indy run becomes his drop race, giving him the potential to improve upon his 21 point run there (a max gain of 13 points). Burnout has a 19 pointer to drop from Phoenix (a max gain of 15 points) which if you do the math, puts him and Dore in equal position in terms of winning the championship. The only thing Dore has going for him is that he enters with the points lead, which is requiring Burnout to improve his Phoenix run.
Assuming both drivers do improve, it's basically who beats who wins the championship. The drop race values for Burnout and Dore provide an interesting championship scenario: either one can win the title by winning the race scoring no bonus points. (If Burnout scores 30, he +11's and Dore could score up to 29, which allows him to +8. Burnout would beat Dore by 1 point. Conversely, Dore would win by 1 point if he won the race with no bonus points and Burnout dominated finishing second.)
Now should both drivers fail to win, things get more complicated. Leading 10% would ensure that who beats who wins the title. For instance, if Dore ran 2nd but didn't score a bonus, he would score 25 points and would +4, but if Burnout led the most laps running behind in 3rd, he would score 26 and would +7, beating Dore by one point. So Dore will guarantee beating Burnout by finishing on the podium ahead of Burnout as long as he gets a 10% led bonus. 4th place for Dore and he beats Burnout, Dore wins title IF Burnout doesn't finish 5th with all bonus points.
There are numerous more scenarios, but let's be realistic here. Both of these drivers have led a combined 1000+ laps this truck series season. They most likely will both lead alot of laps and will need to beat one another to win the title.
Come see how it plays out on Wed. the 8th!
