Tuesday, September 27th will be Daytona's road course for Chase Race #7. Daytona and Homestead are the final two races for Dore and Burnout to fight it out for the championship. Dore kicked off the Chase in impressive fashion looking to run away with it but Burnout put together a 24 point run at Texas to gain five points back on Dore trimming the lead to 6 points for Dore. These last two races serve as drop races, so that makes the 6 point rally much more difficult for Burnout, but it can be attained with two more winning performances. Burnout has the potential to gain back 10 points (5 points per race) but Dore has the potential for 11 points back. As long as Burnout can win the races, Dore will not improve much even with second place runs. But the pressure is on for Burnout to not only win, but also lead a ton of laps to earn the 10% bonus and most laps led to limit the points Dore can get back. Dore will own the tiebreaker so the six points is more like seven for Burnout, as he must outpoint him.
It sounds like a stretch, but there is one clear goal for Burnout - score 24 points at Daytona and Homestead. That will be worth the full 10 points and Dore would only be able to improve by at most three points. (Two 20 point runs, dropping an 18 and 19 point runs).
Of course, this race is open to everyone so Burnout will have his work cut out for him. Daytona's road circuit from the Road Course Series has had some unpredictable intense racing, so it may be hard to clearly dominate. That could be all Dore needs to clinch the title. BTW, if Dore wins the race, he locks the championship and pretty much if Burnout fails to win.
See you on Tuesday!
