I am proposing a new bonus point format for the 2017 SCARTS Turbocharged Cup Series.
Currently in the truck series we are awarding +2 points for leading 10% and +2 for leading the most laps. The values increased from 1 to 2 as a result of the higher point totals for good finishing positions.
Now my idea is to remove the most laps led bonus and to allow bonus points to be scored for every 10% of the race distance led. Every time 10% is led, a +1 bonus will be awarded with a cap of +5 per race (leading 50%+). This change will allow bonus points to be more variable from race to race and to reward aggressive racing up front to maximize laps led.
Such a change will raise the winner's possible points to 35 per race and to create more of a points spread per race.
The only hitch I can see is that the 2nd place car could tie the race winner in points. Of course, the win outweighs 2nd due to Chase implications and for tiebreakers.
Reply if you have any thoughts!
