Wednesday at 5pm ET (possibly moved up) is the SCARTS Shootout at Daytona - our annual race to kick off the new SCARTS year.
This is 'technically' the first race even though we will test this Sunday at Daytona as well for Preseason Thunder.
The SCARTS Shootout doubles as Daytona 500 qualifying and of course the 'Shootout'. We will run our standard qualifying procedure in which cars will make single car runs for laptimes in the order of the slowest to fastest drivers from practice. Contact laps count in practice to seed your position in line for qualifying.
The pole winner will start from the first spot in the not only the SCARTS Shootout but the Daytona 500 on April 1st as well.
The Shootout follows qualifying - a 75 lap non-points race under the lights this year.
We will run two segments. I initially planned on a server intermission between the two segments to keep strategy - but we will switch to a competition caution for a mandatory four tire stop at Lap 25. That means you MUST repair up to 100%. If a caution waves just before Lap 25, that will count as the caution for tires. Then we line up for a usual restart to run the last 50 or so laps.
The finishing order from the race will set the starting grid for the Daytona 500 with the winner starting on the front row alongside the polesitter. Should the polesitter win the Shootout, the second place car joins him on the front row in the Daytona 500 of course. The other importance to qualifying is that the pitstall you choose for the Shootout will remain your pitstall in the Daytona 500 despite your finishing spot from the Shootout.
